Sweeney Killing Sweeney

SYNOPSIS

When Sweeney, a longtime, local Boston comedian finally has a shot at the big time, he decides there’s no holding back. If he’s going to film a cable TV special in Los Angeles, he knows he needs to appeal nationally, not locally. So, in order to pass the final audition, Sweeney decides to drop the portrayal of four colorful Boston “characters, ” from his act. Though they are his signature comedy pieces, Sweeney is convinced he doesn’t need them. But “Jimmy,” the lonely alcoholic, “Mary Ellen McCarthy,” the townie mother, “Marshall Mellow,” the bike helmet-wearing, do-gooder, and “Fitzy,” the beer-bellied raconteur, feel differently. They are pissed at Sweeney’s decision to kick them out of his act and so they magically come to life, and then they not so magically, decide to kill Sweeney. It's a story of self-destruction, acceptance, comedy, love and fortune cookies. Sweeney Killing Sweeney is a gritty fantasy about never giving up on your dreams… no matter what kind of nightmares might come from them.
